When the road ahead seems too long, look back to see how far you’ve come. – Unknown
This quote is really inspiring to me. When I am running it really helps to know how far I have been running to keep inspiring me to continue the rest of the way. This particular day the weather was cold, but the winds were even worse. I thought I would try to go on a route that would protect me from some of the torrential breeze. I was delusional.
Most runners would say that you should head into the wind going out, but on the way home you would want the wind on your back. Now, I didn’t do that. I ended up running with the wind, but not by choice. It was unnerving even with the wind on my back. The first mile and a half were cold, but as I turned back for the other mile and a half I was hit with the briskness of wind like a hammer. I got into denser trees which reduced it, but in my last half mile I felt like I was going to lose my mind from the cold.
It took everything I had to get home. I slapped my thighs a few times to make sure they were still receiving warmth from my inside furnace of a body. I thought about the cold whipping at my face. I thought about how grateful I was that we had this nice warm home that was waiting for me. I kept at it. It was a very difficult run. A run; I don’t wish to repeat. The problem with the wind is that it finds every seam, every opening to ravage you with its bitterness and hostility. I arrived home and ran straight up the stairs and opened and closed the door behind me. The warmth wrapped its loving arms around me. I immediately felt encompassed with the rise in temperature. It was so lovely I could have cried if my tears wouldn’t have frozen on my face!!
3 miles of pure hell. Good times!
